NEW MLK GROUP ANNOUNCES MLK CELEBRATION
Dayton, Ohio – December 26, 2011 Newly formed MLK Dayton welcomes any
member of the Dayton community including residents of all neighborhoods
and suburbs north, south, east and west to celebrate Martin Luther King
Day, Monday, January 16, 2012. The themes of the 2012 celebration are
“Civil and Voting Rights” and “The World House, representing all people,
all nations, and all religions.”
MLK Dayton invites anyone wishing to walk to gather Monday, January 16,
2012 at 11 a.m. at Welcome Stadium, 1601 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. to
march together to the Dayton Convention Center downtown. A rally will be
held inside the Dayton Convention Center upon arrival. After the rally,
participants can attend one of several workshops planned for adults,
college students and youth. The workshops will take place from 1 p.m.
until 3 p.m. at the Convention Center. Transportation will be provided
back to Welcome Stadium from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, January 16,
2012.
The day’s events will culminate with the traditional Martin Luther King
Banquet Monday, January 16, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Convention
Center, 22 E. Fifth Street. The featured speaker is Rev. Dr. Lewis
Brogdon, Director of Black Church Studies and Assistant Professor of New
Testament and Black Church Studies at Louisville Presbyterian
Theological Seminary.
Newly formed MLK Dayton has support from local colleges and universities
including Wright State University, Sinclair Community College and the
University of Dayton. Members of MLK Dayton will be contacting area
businesses for participation and contributions.
